No Moneybags in Awujale Selection, Ijebu chief warns

The Baamofin of Ijebuland, AbdulWasiu Oduwole, has called on kingmakers to maintain their independence and impartiality in the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland. The throne fell vacant following the demise of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years.
According to our intelligence report Oduwole cautioned the kingmakers against allowing corruption to influence their decision-making process. He warned that the selection process should not be hijacked by individuals with deep pockets, emphasizing that the kingmakers’ responsibility is sacred and must be carried out in the best interest of Ijebuland.
“They must allow the process to run naturally and with integrity,” Oduwole stressed. “The kingmakers must avoid corruption, as the immediate past Awujale also warned. No moneybag should be allowed to hijack the process.”
The Baamofin expressed confidence in the credibility and integrity of the kingmakers, describing them as men of unquestionable character who would not compromise their integrity under any circumstances. He specifically mentioned Chief Sonny Kuku and others as examples of respected figures who would follow due process.
Oduwole, a legal practitioner, also urged the state government to allow the selection process to run its due course without interference or undue influence. He emphasized the need for the process to be free from manipulation, ensuring that the next Awujale is chosen based on merit and the best interest of Ijebuland.
The Baamofin’s statement is coming against the backdrop of the ongoing selection process, which has generated a lot of interest and anticipation among stakeholders in Ijebuland. As the kingmakers deliberate on the next Awujale, Oduwole’s call for neutrality and integrity is expected to shape the process and ensure that the best candidate emerges.
