Nurses’ Forum Petitions IGP Over Assault of Community Nurse During Vaccination Duty

The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, following the alleged assault of a community health worker, Nurse Hussein, during a government-approved vaccination exercise in Lagos.
According to the petition, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Olanike Dairo Primary and Secondary School. A health team had visited the school for a routine measles and rubella immunization outreach. Upon arrival, the team was asked to wait while school management held discussions.
The ENF alleges that while waiting outside the gate, Nurse Hussein was suddenly approached and slapped by the school’s Head Mistress, identified as Madam Bimpe. A video circulating online purportedly shows the head teacher admitting to the act.
In the petition, the forum condemned the incident as “a direct attack on public health workers” and an assault on government-sanctioned health services. It called for an immediate police investigation, prosecution of those responsible, protection for health workers on duty, and a strong public statement against violence targeting healthcare personnel.
Nurse Hussein provided a detailed account, stating she was following instructions to wait outside the school compound due to its reported reluctance to accept vaccines. She alleged the head mistress assaulted her for “tarnishing the school’s image” by mentioning this policy openly. Despite pressure to apologize, the nurse maintained she had done nothing wrong.
The ENF emphasized that health workers deserve respect and legal protection while performing essential public duties. The case has been referred to the police for investigation and possible legal action.
