NYSC Announces Readiness for Reform to Meet National Challenges

The National Youth Service Corps has declared its readiness to undergo reforms to address emerging national challenges and enhance its contribution to the country’s development.
The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made the statement on Monday in Jos, Plateau State, during the opening of the scheme’s 2026 Annual Management Conference.
He noted that the scheme has matured and must now evolve beyond symbolic nation-building to more measurable impact.
“Our internal review of the past year has clearly shown that we must embrace change and continuous growth,” Nafiu said.
He emphasized the need for the NYSC to adapt to changing population dynamics, security concerns, and technological advancements.
“Management is therefore dedicated to reforms that strengthen systems, enhance service delivery, and align our operations with current realities,” he added.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, represented by his deputy, Josephine Piyo, commended the NYSC for its strategic role in national development and announced ongoing renovation work at the Mangu orientation camp, along with the allocation of additional land for agricultural use by corps members.
The conference, themed “NYSC as a Catalyst for National Development,” aims to generate actionable strategies for improving the scheme’s effectiveness and sustainability.
