OAGF Faces Legal Action Over Refusal to Disclose Ekiti Constituency Project Funds

A civic group has resolved to take the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) to court over its alleged refusal to disclose details of funds released for constituency projects in Ekiti North Senatorial District, accusing the office of violating the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.
The planned legal action follows a formal FOI request submitted on January 19, 2026, by a team of lawyers representing concerned citizens from Ekiti State. The request sought comprehensive details including amounts, projects, and beneficiary agencies of all federal constituency project funds released to the district from 2023 to date.
Despite acknowledging receipt of the request, the OAGF failed to provide the information or justify its withholding within the seven-day period stipulated by law.
Led by Ayobami Tosin Durodola Esq., the applicants have described the OAGF’s silence as a deliberate obstruction of transparency. “The refusal fuels suspicions of financial impropriety, diversion of funds, or non-execution of projects,” the group stated.
The legal team, which includes Abuja-based lawyer Folafemi Adeyeye, will now seek a court order to compel disclosure. The case highlights growing public scrutiny over the implementation of constituency projects, amid claims of increased budgetary allocations to lawmakers with little visible development on the ground in some regions.
Transparency advocates warn that such disregard for the FOI Act undermines democratic accountability and fosters secrecy in the management of public finances.
