Obaseki Orders Reinstatement Of Sacked AAU Lecturers

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has ordered Ambrose Alli University (AAU) management to reverse the recent sack of some staff of the institution.

There has been a lingering face-off between the management and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the institution.

Some of the aggrieved staff alleged maladministration, intimidation, and victimisation by Sonnie Adagbonyin, the acting vice-chancellor of AAU.

On Tuesday, the varsity’s ASUU accused the management of sacking 22 lecturers of the institution while alleging plots to intimidate the staff.

But the institution dismissed the mass sack allegation while clarifying that only one lecturer was sacked.

ASUU, however, countered the claim, alleging 22 lecturers were indeed sacked.

In a statement on Wednesday by Crusoe Osagie, his media aide, Obaseki said the sack notices reportedly issued to the lecturers remain “null and void”.

“The management is to retrieve any such illegal letters if they were ever issued and reinstate the affected staff,” Obaseki said.

“I have ordered an in-depth investigation into what led to the sporadic issuance of illegal sack letters and assure that anyone found culpable will be brought to book.”

Obaseki reiterated his commitment to the welfare of members of staff of the institution.

The governor added that his administration is exploring ways to address all lingering issues affecting workers in the state-owned institution.
