Ogun Govt Visits Hospitalised TikToker Over Rape Allegation
The Ogun State Government has visited a TikToker, identified only as Mirabel (@mirab351), who is currently receiving treatment at a state-owned hospital after alleging that she was raped.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday. According to the Commissioner, the government has activated a multi-sectoral response to address the sexual assault claim. She stated that the victim is now in a state health facility where she is receiving medical attention, psychosocial support, and is cooperating with investigators.
Adeleye noted that Mirabel is responding positively to treatment. She explained that the visit was to assess her condition and ensure that all necessary medical and welfare interventions were being properly administered.
“This structured approach is intended to protect the survivor’s welfare while guaranteeing that investigations are conducted professionally, thoroughly, and strictly on the basis of verifiable evidence,” the Commissioner said.
“Detailed examinations and all required clinical procedures are being carried out in line with established standards for managing cases of alleged sexual assault, while security agencies are simultaneously conducting investigations.”
Adeleye reiterated that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual and gender-based violence. However, she stressed that while the government stands with survivors, it is equally guided by the rule of law.
“Investigations must be evidence-based, transparent and fair to all parties involved. Whoever is found wanting will face the full wrath of the law,” she added.
The Commissioner praised the Ogun State Police Command for its swift response after the case was transferred from Lagos State authorities. She also commended the medical team at the state facility and the Ministry of Justice for their handling of the matter.
She urged the public to avoid speculative narratives or sensational comments that could jeopardise the ongoing investigation, assuring that further updates would be provided based on verified findings.
PUNCH Online recalls that Mirabel had earlier alleged on social media that she was attacked and raped by an unknown man in the Ogijo area of Ogun State on Sunday. The viral allegation sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for justice for survivors of sexual violence.
