Ogun Man Arrested for Sexually Abusing Daughter, Procuring Abortions
A 21-year-old woman has accused her father, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, of repeatedly sexually abusing her over several years and procuring illegal abortions for five pregnancies resulting from the abuse, according to police authorities in Ogun State.
The victim, whose name has been withheld, reported the matter at the Ifo Police Division on March 26, 2026. She told investigators that she lost her mother as an infant and was initially placed by her father in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos State. In 2019, she said her father took her to Ijebu Ode under the guise of guardianship, after which the alleged abuse began.
According to the police, the victim stated that the abuse continued for years, leading to five pregnancies, all of which her father allegedly helped terminate.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the suspect’s arrest on Monday. He explained that the young woman managed to escape from her father’s residence on February 1, 2026, following persistent harassment, and took refuge in a church located on Pakoto mountain. She later approached the police at the Ifo division to narrate her ordeal.
“The complainant alleged that her father began sexually abusing her in 2019 and continued the abuse over several years. During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured abortion for each pregnancy,” Babaseyi said in a statement.
He added that acting on a tip-off, officers from the Ifo division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kamorudeen, arrested the suspect. Ewedemi is currently in police custody as preliminary investigations continue.
The case has since been transferred to the Gender Desk for further investigation and prosecution.
