Ogun State Government Closes Case on TikToker’s Rape Allegations

The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has officially declared that the sexual assault claims made by TikTok user Nsikak Abigail Emem, widely known as Mirabel, were false. According to state authorities, an investigation into the viral allegations, which first emerged in February, revealed that the incident was a fabrication, and consequently, the case does not merit criminal prosecution.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), stated that investigations and the individual’s own admissions confirmed the claim was false. He noted that the state decided to prioritize psycho-social rehabilitation over legal action, as the false report posed no actual threat to public safety.
Following the investigation, Mirabel was placed under the care of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Officials report that she has responded positively to rehabilitation and is currently preparing for academic examinations as she works toward further education.
The initial allegations, which claimed that unidentified individuals had invaded her home in the Sagamu area and sexually assaulted her, had sparked widespread public outrage and significant social media debate earlier this year. However, the claims later faced intense scrutiny due to alleged inconsistencies in her narrative and a lack of physical evidence.
In a separate update, the Ministry of Justice also highlighted significant progress regarding the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in the Ibogun area. Authorities confirmed the arrest of a key suspect, Qudus Abiola Yekini, who is alleged to be the ringleader of the attack. While two other suspects remain at large, the ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tracking them down and ensuring they face the full weight of the law.
The state government utilized the update to reiterate its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence, while simultaneously warning the public against the dangers of making false allegations, emphasizing that such actions carry serious legal consequences.
