Ogun Waterside Backs Dangote Deep Seaport, Demands Jobs for Local Residents

Ogun Waterside Local Government has expressed support for the proposed Dangote Deep Seaport project while urging the company to prioritise the employment of qualified residents during its development and operation.

The position was made known during a stakeholders’ engagement involving government officials, community leaders, traditional rulers and representatives of the project promoters.

The council described the planned seaport as a major economic opportunity that could drive industrial growth, create jobs and transform Ogun Waterside into a key maritime and logistics hub.

Local authorities also called on residents and community stakeholders to maintain peace and cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of the project. They assured investors of a conducive environment while stressing the need to protect the interests and welfare of host communities.

Representatives of the project developers reaffirmed their commitment to responsible investment, transparency and sustained engagement with affected communities. They pledged to honour agreements reached with stakeholders and provide compensation where necessary in line with established standards.

Stakeholders further emphasised the importance of employing qualified indigenes in both technical and administrative roles to ensure that local communities benefit directly from the project.

At the end of the meeting, participants agreed to maintain regular communication and collaboration throughout the development process. Plans were also made for additional town hall meetings to keep residents informed as work progresses.

The proposed Dangote Deep Seaport is expected to boost Nigeria’s export capacity, support industrial activities within the Free Trade Zone and strengthen the country’s position as a major trade and logistics gateway in West Africa.
