Ohanaeze Chieftain Urges Tinubu to Pardon Nnamdi Kanu Ahead of 2027 Election

The Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has called on President Bola Tinubu to grant a presidential pardon to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, as part of a broader political strategy to secure re-election in 2027.
In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Isiguzoro stated that such a move would ease tensions in the South-East and weaken opposition mobilization against the President. He advised that the pardon be issued on a symbolic date such as June 12 or October 1.
The Igbo leader also urged the suspension of the recently introduced tax law, which he said has spurred influential business leaders to covertly fund opposition movements. He described the full implementation of the 2014 National Conference report as a “game changer” that could address long-standing regional grievances and reshape the political landscape.
Additionally, Isiguzoro emphasized the need to accelerate completion of major infrastructure projects and consider creating additional states across geopolitical zones to broaden the President’s support base.
He warned that “powerful forces” across the country including northern elites, Middle Belt leaders, business moguls, and retired military figures are aligning to oppose Tinubu’s second-term bid.
“Tinubu must not underestimate the conspiracy against him. This election will be won through strategy, courage, and timely political decisions,” Isiguzoro stated.
He contended that visibly delivering on projects and implementing historically recommended reforms would significantly boost the ruling party’s appeal ahead of the 2027 polls.
