Oluremi Tinubu Disburses N819m to Widows of Fallen Military, Police Personnel

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced a N819 million support package for 1,638 widows of military and police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, as part of efforts to strengthen the welfare of families left behind by fallen security officers.

The intervention, delivered through the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Social Investment Programme, provides financial grants of N500,000 each to the beneficiaries to help them establish new businesses or expand existing ventures.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony in Abuja, Tinubu said the programme was designed to empower the widows economically and recognise the sacrifices made by their late spouses in service to the nation.

Of the total amount disbursed, 1,315 widows of military personnel received N657.5 million, while 323 widows of deceased police officers benefited from N161.5 million.

The First Lady noted that the beneficiaries had already begun receiving the funds directly into their accounts, describing the event as a symbolic presentation of the support package.

She commended the resilience and dedication of the widows, acknowledging the challenges associated with supporting spouses who served in security operations and the painful loss many of them have endured.

Tinubu stressed that the initiative was aimed at providing practical assistance to help the women sustain their families and build stable sources of income.

The programme covers widows of military and police personnel who died in active service from 2023 to date and forms part of broader efforts to support the families of fallen heroes.

Security chiefs and government officials at the event praised the initiative, describing it as a meaningful gesture that reflects national appreciation for the sacrifices made by security personnel and their families.
