Ondo Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Man for Alleged Defilement of Teenager in Owo

The Gender-Based Violence Unit of the Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Usman, on charges of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the Owo Local Government Area.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on March 29, 2026, when the suspect allegedly dragged the victim into his employer’s office located in the Ijebu Quarters area of Owo. He is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

The teenager further claimed that Usman threatened her with severe consequences if she ever revealed the assault to anyone, in an apparent attempt to intimidate and silence her. Despite the threats, she reported the matter to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Monday in Akure, the Ondo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Abayomi Jimoh, said the case is currently under thorough investigation.

“According to the report, the victim alleged that on the same date, one Emmanuel Usman, aged 23, forcefully dragged her into his employer’s office along Ijebu Owo, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent,” Jimoh stated. “Upon receipt of the report, operatives swiftly moved into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect. He is currently in police custody and has made useful statements that are aiding the investigation.”

Jimoh added that the victim has been taken to the General Hospital in Owo, where she received necessary medical attention. He also noted that appropriate psychosocial support is being arranged for her throughout the investigative and judicial process.

The police spokesperson said the suspect would be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, strongly condemned the act and ordered that the case be handled with utmost diligence, sensitivity, and urgency to ensure justice is served. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating all forms of sexual and gender-based violence across the state.
