Osun Community Stranded Without Healthcare as Only Health Centre Lies in Ruins

Residents of Ilemowu community in Osun State’s Olaoluwa Local Government Area have been left without access to basic medical services due to the complete abandonment of their only Primary Healthcare Centre.
The facility, which serves thousands, has significantly deteriorated, with sections of the structure collapsed and the building in a state of disrepair. Reports indicate missing roofing sheets, cracked walls, and broken doors and windows. The centre is unstaffed and lacks functional medical equipment.
This neglect persists despite repeated appeals by the community to local and state authorities. The civic technology platform Monitng highlighted the severe impact on residents, particularly vulnerable groups. “Pregnant women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities are forced to travel long distances to neighboring communities for care, facing increased health risks and financial strain,” the organization stated.
The situation stands in stark contrast to substantial annual health budgets in Osun State and ongoing federal government-led renovation projects for primary healthcare centers nationwide. Monitng pointed out this discrepancy, noting that Ilemowu’s facility has been entirely overlooked despite these broader initiatives.
