Osun LG Chairmen Boost Security with Donation of 60 Patrol Vehicles

Local government chairmen in Osun State have donated 60 patrol vehicles to security agencies operating within the state to help bolster efforts to combat crime and maintain public order. The presentation took place on Saturday at the Nigeria Police Force Command Headquarters in Osogbo.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), led by its chairman, Samuel Idowu, organized the donation. This latest contribution follows a previous handover of 30 vehicles, bringing the total number of patrol units provided by the councils to 90. Additionally, the association has previously supplied 300 motorcycles to both conventional and non-conventional security outfits in the state to enhance local patrols.

During the handover, Idowu emphasized that the initiative was made possible by the financial autonomy recently granted to local government councils. He noted that this independence has allowed council leaders to prioritize security and execute development projects tailored to the specific needs of their communities.

“Security remains the bedrock of any meaningful development,” Idowu stated. “Autonomy enables us to act without undue delays, to design solutions that are tailored to our local realities, and to take responsibility for the security and welfare of our communities.”

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, received the vehicles on behalf of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Immigration Service. He commended the local government leaders for their support, noting that the vehicles would significantly improve mobility, response times, and inter-agency collaboration across the state.

The Commissioner assured the public that the new assets would be utilized exclusively for security operations and maintained to ensure their longevity in the service of protecting lives and property.
