Osun Speaker Petitions IGP Disu Over Alleged Death Threats by Politicians Ahead of Election

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has submitted a formal petition to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu regarding death threats allegedly issued by political figures ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Wednesday, Egbedun confirmed that his legal team forwarded the petition following viral video recordings containing explicit threats against non-APC members and political opponents in the state.

The threats were reportedly issued by Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, and Francis Eniade, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency.

“No threat to life should be treated lightly, irrespective of the political party or individual involved,” Egbedun stated. “My lawyers have submitted a formal petition to the Inspector-General of Police and the appropriate authorities. I am optimistic that the Inspector-General will act swiftly, investigate the matter thoroughly, and ensure it is not swept under the carpet.”

The petition follows circulating media clips where Senator Fadahunsi threatened violence against Accord Party members in Ilesa, while Eniade warned non-APC supporters against attempting to vote in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area on election day.

In response to the developments, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the immediate arrest of those issuing threats, warning that such utterances could incite widespread electoral violence. Meanwhile, Speaker Egbedun urged residents and voters across the state to remain peaceful and participate in the democratic process without fear.
