PDP issues Wike, others certificate of expulsion

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued a Certificate of Expulsion to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, sealing his removal from the party after months of internal conflict and accusations of anti-party activities.
The certificate was issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of the new National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN. The action follows the ratification of Wike’s expulsion at the PDP National Convention held on November 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the party, Wike’s expulsion was carried out in line with Article 59(3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), citing gross anti-party activities, sabotage, and open collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike, a former Rivers State governor and one of the party’s most influential figures until recent years, has been repeatedly accused of undermining PDP structures nationwide while serving in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led federal cabinet.
Alongside Wike, the NWC also confirmed the issuance of expulsion certificates to several other former party leaders, including Samuel Anyanwu, former National Secretary, and Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, former National Legal Adviser.
Others are Umar Bature, former National Organizing Secretary, Abdulrahman Mohammed, former National Vice Chairman (North Central), Ayo Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State, George Turner; Austine Nwachukwu, former Imo State Chairman, and Abraham Amah, former Abia State Chairman
Describing the decision as “final and irrevocable,” PDP National Chairman Turaki said the party was embarking on a new era of discipline and cohesion.
“This party will not tolerate disloyalty,” Turaki declared. “Those who have consistently worked against the PDP while benefiting from its platform have been shown the way out. We are rebuilding a united, disciplined opposition ready to rescue Nigeria in 2027.”
Former acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, who earlier handed over to Turaki, also pledged continued support for the party’s reform process.
Addressing an enlarged meeting of NWC, and other Party officials after the hand over, Turaki declared: “The PDP will never die. This party is bigger than any individual or group of individuals.
“Those who have chosen to dine with our opponents while still wearing our colours have been shown the way out. This is the beginning of a disciplined, united, and purposeful opposition that will rescue Nigeria in 2027.”
The Chairman assured all loyal members that the PDP under his leadership will immediately commence healing and reconciliation among genuine members; enforce party discipline without fear or favour; rebuild structures across the 36 states and FCT, and present a formidable, united front against the failed APC administration.
In his farewell remarks, Ambassador Damagum thanked the Party on behalf of other members of the NWC for the opportunity given to them and pledged to work together with the current members towards achieving the needed reforms in the Party.
The latest move marks one of the most decisive disciplinary actions in the PDP’s recent history and signals a strategic attempt to reassert control, rebuild internal unity, and strengthen its 2027 political prospects.
