Personal Tragedies Affected My Form Last Season – Liverpool’s Konaté

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté has revealed that a series of personal losses contributed to a dip in his performance during the 2025–26 season, as he opened up about a challenging campaign both on and off the pitch.

The French international made 51 appearances for Liverpool, starting 49 of them, but struggled to consistently match the high standards he had set in previous seasons. The club finished fifth in the Premier League.

Konaté, who has earned 27 caps for France, remains part of Didier Deschamps’ squad as the team prepares for the World Cup.

Reflecting on the season, the defender admitted that the emotional toll of personal tragedies left him drained while still trying to perform at the highest level.

He stated that there was never a moment when he felt he was recovering, as the tragic events happened in quick succession. Just when he thought he was getting back on his feet, something else occurred.

Despite the difficulties, Konaté said he received support from the fans, his teammates, and his family. However, he also felt the need to learn how to stand on his own again because the team needed him more than ever. He added that his father would have wanted him to keep going.

His comments highlight the emotional strain behind his performances last season, even as he remained a key part of Liverpool’s defence and continued his international role with France.
