Plateau Police Arrest Fifth Suspect Over Torture and Killing of UNIJOS Graduate
Police in Plateau State have taken a fifth suspect into custody in connection with the tragic mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a University of Jos graduate.
The 24-year-old suspect, identified as Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, was apprehended following intelligence-led operations by detectives. According to the police, preliminary investigations reveal that Beskeni played a direct role in the assault, allegedly helping tie the victim to a pole while a crowd subjected him to severe torture.
Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” died on July 27 after being accused of stealing a mobile phone at an off-campus residence in Jos. The incident sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls to put an end to jungle justice.
The Plateau State Police Command assured the public that all individuals involved in the unlawful attack will be brought to justice. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing as security personnel continue their manhunt for other fleeing members of the mob.
