Police Arrest Ondo Man for Alleged Incest, Victim’s Pregnancy Triggers Probe

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, for the alleged sexual abuse of his 15-year-old niece in Ilara-Mokin.

According to police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh, the arrest followed a report filed on Sunday by the victim’s uncle, who grew suspicious after discovering the minor was pregnant. Preliminary investigation suggests the abuse had been ongoing for some time.

“The act was uncovered following enquiries into the cause of the victim’s pregnancy,” Jimoh stated.

The case has been transferred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the command for detailed investigation. The suspect remains in custody and will be prosecuted upon completion of the probe.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights of women and children and enforcing the law against sexual and gender-based violence, aligning with the Inspector-General of Police’s vision for gender-sensitive policing.

This incident follows the recent arrest of another man in Oyo State for a similar alleged offence against a neighbour’s minor. Authorities continue to urge the public to report such cases promptly.
