Police Arrest Three Suspects, Recover Guns, Charms in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in separate operations across the Mowe and Sagamu areas, recovering locally made firearms, cartridges, and charms believed to be linked to cult-related and criminal activities.
In a statement released on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the arrests were made between April 14 and 18, 2026, during intelligence-led operations and stop-and-search duties carried out by divisional units and the Quick Response Squad.
In the first incident at Mowe, Babaseyi explained that the command acted on credible intelligence about a suspicious individual loitering around a bus stop.
On April 14, operatives of the Mowe Division arrested 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo. A search reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrelled pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
In a separate operation on April 17, officers of the Quick Response Squad intercepted a motorcycle along the Lafarge axis on the Sagamu–Ogijo Road. The rider, 30-year-old Asaye Ajibola, was found in possession of a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges. He was arrested after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the weapon.
A third arrest was made on April 18 along the same axis. The rider, 49-year-old Adedeji Olufemi, was found with a locally made double-barrel gun and eight cartridges. He was arrested on the spot after he could not account for the firearm.
The command stated that all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and proactive policing. He added that the command will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes.
