Police Bust Drug Network in Delta, Seize 21 Bags of Cannabis in Intelligence Raid

Operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit of the Delta State Police Command have dismantled a suspected drug distribution network, confiscating 21 large bags of illicit cannabis in Ukwani Local Government Area.

The operation took place following an intelligence-led raid on a suspected hideout located in the Owa-Abbi community. During the raid, officers apprehended a 56-year-old suspect, identified as Lucky Oyiboka. A search of the premises yielded the bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police authorities confirmed that the raid was carried out as part of ongoing crime-fighting measures initiated by the Inspector-General of Police.

Command spokesperson SP Bright Edafe stated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect played a key role in the regional distribution of illicit narcotics.

“Investigation has been intensified to determine the extent of the illicit drug network and identify other persons connected to the operation,” Edafe noted. He added that the suspect remains in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the inquiry.

Delta State Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi reaffirmed the command’s dedication to intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates and curbing illicit drug distribution across the state. Police authorities have urged members of the public to continue providing timely information, assuring that the identities of all informants will be strictly protected.
