The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has officially dismissed a widely circulated social media report alleging an assassination attempt on Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer recently involved in a public confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
In a statement released Sunday night, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, labeled the claim as “false” and warned that such misinformation is “capable of causing unnecessary public panic.”
The viral report had claimed that unidentified men in two unmarked Hilux vans trailed Yerima from the Kubwa area. However, Adeh firmly stated that “the Command has no record or report of any such incident within the FCT.”
She urged residents to disregard the “misleading and unverified” publication, emphasizing that the spread of false information poses a significant threat to public safety.
The incident comes just days after a viral video showed a heated argument between Lieutenant Yerima and Minister Wike over a disputed land in the Gaduwa District, which had already placed the officer in the national spotlight.
Reiterating their commitment to law and order, the Police advised the public to remain vigilant and report any genuine suspicious activities, providing emergency contact numbers for swift response.
