Police Intercept Suspect with Nearly 1,000 Suspected Explosives in Zamfara

Police operatives in Zamfara have arrested a 38-year-old man found in possession of 954 suspected explosive devices, authorities announced on Wednesday.

The suspect, identified as Mustapha Mohammad, was intercepted by the Command’s Task Force on Illegal Mining on Tuesday afternoon, following a tip-off. He was arrested while driving a Toyota Corolla.

A search of the vehicle revealed hundreds of suspected explosive materials, each concealed in polyethylene bags.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, preliminary investigations suggest the materials were likely intended for use by bandits to fabricate Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team for analysis and safe keeping,” Abubakar stated.

He added that an investigation is underway to uncover the source and intended destination of the explosives, as well as to identify any possible accomplices.

This arrest in Zamfara follows a similar incident days earlier in Oyo State, where police also intercepted a truck laden with suspected explosive materials during a routine stop-and-search operation.
