Police Investigation Underway After Family of Five Found Dead in Abia Home

Police authorities in Abia State have opened an investigation into the mysterious deaths of five family members inside their apartment in Umuimo village, located within the Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.
The deceased have been identified as Mr. Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife, Chinaza, and their three young children.
According to community sources, the family was last seen alive on Saturday, July 18. Concerns mounted after days of unresponsiveness, prompting relatives and neighbors to force open the entrance to the home on Tuesday, July 22, where they discovered the decomposing remains.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the development, noting that the case was formally reported to the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters by a brother of the deceased.
She stated that upon receiving the report, officers visited the scene, conducted a preliminary visual inspection, took photographs, and deposited the corpses at a local morgue for preservation and autopsy examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
While police have not officially confirmed a cause, initial searches of the premises revealed leftover food containers and a power generator inside the residence. Authorities are exploring all potential angles, including accidental poisoning or noxious fumes, as homicide detectives continue their investigation.
