Police Invite Son of Late Emir of Kano Over N70 Million Land Fraud Allegation
The Nigeria Police Force Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano has summoned Bello Ado Bayero, the District Head of Tarauni and son of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, for questioning over his alleged connection to a N70 million land fraud case.
The invitation follows an ongoing investigation into what police sources describe as a coordinated land scam network that reportedly defrauded a Kano-based businessman.
Authorities have already arrested Yahaya Mohammed Uba, identified as the alleged prime suspect in the transaction. He is currently in custody at the Zone 1 Police Headquarters in Kano.
DSP Husseini Abdullahi, spokesperson for the Zone 1 Police Headquarters, confirmed to SaharaReporters that the district head and all other individuals named in the petition have been invited for questioning.
“I can assure you that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) is a highly professional officer committed to the cause of justice. The head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is equally involved, and the AIG does not treat matters of this nature lightly,” Abdullahi said.
Preliminary findings reportedly revealed financial transfers totaling N60 million from Yahaya Mohammed Uba’s account into an account allegedly linked to Bello Ado Bayero, a development that investigators say necessitated the invitation.
According to a petition filed by the complainant, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed, he was persuaded to purchase a plot of land located in Darmanawa, Tarauni Local Government Area.
On February 5, 2026, Yahaya Mohammed Uba allegedly shared his GTBank account details via WhatsApp, presenting himself as the legitimate owner of the property. The agreed purchase price was N70 million.
The following day, the full payment was reportedly transferred through the businessman’s wife’s account into Yahaya’s account. He acknowledged receipt and scheduled a meeting for February 7 to sign the necessary documents.
However, the deal took a turn when Yahaya allegedly informed the buyer that the land did not belong to him but to District Head Bello Ado Bayero. When questioned, he reportedly claimed that traditional rulers often conduct land transactions through proxies.
Investigators later discovered that the documents presented to the buyer were allegedly forged. The land is also said to be the subject of an ongoing lawsuit before the Federal High Court involving Shuaibu Salisu and Mahmoud Muhammed.
Following the revelation, the complainant reportedly met with Bello Ado Bayero to request a refund of his N70 million. According to the petition, the district head allegedly failed to return the money, prompting the formal police complaint.
The petition lists the following individuals as members of the alleged syndicate: Bello Ado Bayero, Yahaya Mohammed Uba, Salisu Shuaibu, and an unnamed staff member of the Kano State Land Registry.
Police sources say financial records are being reviewed as investigators work to establish the full extent of each suspect’s involvement.
