Police, JAMB Uncover Tech-Driven UTME Fraud Syndicate in Delta

The Nigeria Police Force, working with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has uncovered a sophisticated examination malpractice syndicate during the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Delta State.

The operation, driven by intelligence, targeted attempts to compromise the integrity of the exam through technology-assisted fraud and unauthorised remote access to examination systems.

The incident took place at the College of Education Warri examination centre. Investigators found that remote access was illegally gained into candidates’ computer systems while the test was in progress.

Acting on credible intelligence and digital forensic leads, police operatives carried out coordinated operations that led to the arrest of three suspects linked to the syndicate. The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with further inquiries.

Investigations have also revealed the involvement of additional examination centres suspected of similar illegal activities.

As an immediate administrative step, JAMB withdrew results from the affected centres pending the conclusion of investigations. Candidates affected by the development will not lose the opportunity to sit for the examination, as fresh arrangements have been made for them to take a mop-up test.

The police warned cadidates, CBT centre operators, and criminal collaborators against any form of examination malpractice, cyber-assisted fraud, or unauthorised system intrusion. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the credibility of Nigeria’s educational system and vowed to continue tracking and prosecuting criminal networks behind examination fraud.
