Police Neutralise Suspected Kidnapper, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Delta Forest

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s State Anti-Kidnapping Unit have killed a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle following a gun battle at a forest hideout.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, announced the operation in a statement on Tuesday. He said the raid took place in the early hours of Monday in the Ubulu-Okiti forest axis, in collaboration with local security volunteers.

Recoverd weapon and charm

According to the statement, the operatives acted on intelligence gathered from ongoing investigations into recent kidnapping incidents across the state. They trailed suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate to their hideout in the forest.

Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire on the operatives. The team responded with superior firepower, during which one of the suspected kidnappers sustained serious gunshot injuries while others escaped into the forest with varying degrees of wounds.

The injured suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition and suspected criminal charms.

Edafe added that security forces have launched a combing operation in the forest and adjoining areas to track down the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.

The command urged residents of Delta State to remain vigilant and support law enforcement with timely information, assuring the public that all necessary operational strategies are being deployed to guarantee safety of lives and property.
