Police recover three AK-47 rifles from accident victims in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has recovered three AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 104 rounds of ammunition from a sack belonging to two men involved in a motorcycle accident in Suleja.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the two individuals, riding a motorcycle from the Tafa area of Kaduna State and heading towards Abuja, crashed into a road construction barrier, resulting in a lone accident.

Police patrol teams who responded to a distress call rushed to the scene to assist the victims. During their intervention, they recovered a sack belonging to the men. A search of the bag uncovered three AK-47 rifles, along with six magazines and 104 rounds of live ammunition.

Tragically, one of the accident victims died at the scene. The second victim, who sustained injuries, was lynched by a mob that had also gathered to assist.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, condemned the act of jungle justice. He stated that the surviving suspect would have provided valuable information to help the police ascertain the source of the rifles and unravel their mission.

In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, quoted the Commissioner as directing the Area Commander in Suleja to commence a thorough investigation and ensure the arrest of those responsible for the lynching.

Abiodun added that the recovered rifles have been sent for ballistic analysis to aid further investigations. The corpses of both victims have been deposited at the Suleja General Hospital morgue.
