Police Rescue 10 Passengers Following Highway Attack in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have rescued 10 passengers who were abducted during an attack along the Jos-Kano highway in Doguwa Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on July 26, 2026, when five armed men intercepted a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 20 passengers near Falgore Forest. The attackers, armed with machetes and a firearm, forced 13 passengers into captivity before security forces were notified.
Following a distress call received by the Doguwa Divisional Police Headquarters, tactical police teams deployed to the scene and engaged the assailants in a gun duel. The operation resulted in the immediate rescue of nine victims, while an additional passenger subsequently escaped from the abductors. Three victims one male and two females remain in captivity.
The rescued passengers were taken to Doguwa General Hospital for medical evaluation and remain in stable condition. Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori commended local residents for providing timely information and assured the public that search-and-rescue operations have been intensified to secure the release of the remaining captives and apprehend the suspects.
