Police Rescue Bayelsa Woman After Nearly One Month in Kidnappers’ Den

The Bayelsa State Police Command has rescued a 42-year-old woman who spent almost one month in captivity after she was abducted by suspected kidnappers in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The victim was reportedly kidnapped on July 28, 2026, when armed men posing as customers visited her shop before forcefully taking her away.

Police authorities said intelligence-led investigations helped operatives trace the kidnappers to a forest hideout in the South-Dajo area, where a coordinated rescue operation was launched. The victim was rescued unharmed, while one suspected member of the gang was arrested during the raid.

According to security officials, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N100 million from the victim’s family before reducing the amount during negotiations. Investigators tracked the suspects through intelligence gathering and monitoring of their activities.

The rescued woman’s husband described the period of captivity as a difficult experience for the family, revealing that ransom demands and repeated negotiations placed emotional and financial pressure on them.

Speaking after her rescue, the victim recounted how the kidnappers deceived her by pretending to be customers before abducting her. She described the location where she was held as harsh and distressing, adding that she endured several weeks in captivity before gaining freedom.

The victim expressed gratitude to security operatives for rescuing her and safely reuniting her with her family.

The successful operation highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies in Bayelsa State to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes. Authorities have urged residents to provide timely information that could assist law enforcement in preventing criminal activities and improving public safety across the state.
