President Tinubu Applauds FCT Transformation Under Minister Wike
President Bola Tinubu has commended the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, stating that Abuja is undergoing its most significant positive transformation in its 50-year history.
Speaking through Senate President Godswill Akpabio at a special thanksgiving dinner in Abuja, the president celebrated the successful completion and inauguration of 31 infrastructure projects across the capital within a 28-day period. He lauded the minister’s result-oriented leadership style, noting that completed roads and bridges have visibly enhanced unity, connectivity, and economic opportunities for residents.
Minister Wike attributed the rapid pace of development to key administrative reforms. Upon taking office, he encountered low workforce morale, which was resolved by establishing the FCT Civil Service Commission to allow civil servants to advance to peak career positions. Additionally, the removal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account enabled the administration to secure critical commercial funding to revive projects, roughly 70 percent of which had been abandoned by previous administrations.
The transformation drive received widespread praise from key stakeholders at the event. Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, represented by House Majority Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, described Wike as the best-performing FCT minister to date. Representatives from the construction sector, including Julius Berger Managing Director Dr. Peer Lubasch, also commended the government’s sustained infrastructure investment, noting that the ongoing developments are successfully positioning Abuja as a premier purpose-built capital in Africa.
