President Tinubu Condemns “Cowardly” Kwara Attack, Vows Justice
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent deadly assault on the Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara State, labeling the perpetrators’ actions as “cowardly and beastly” and vowing that they will not escape justice.
In a statement on Thursday, the President confirmed he had met with Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for a full briefing on the Tuesday night attack in Kaiama Local Government Area. He expressed outrage at the targeting of innocent civilians.
“I condemn in the strongest terms this cowardly and beastly attack. The gunmen are heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror,” President Tinubu stated.
The attack was reportedly triggered after community members rejected attempts by militants to forcibly impose an extremist doctrine. While initial figures suggested over 100 fatalities, Governor AbdulRazak later confirmed 75 deaths, describing the victims as local Muslims “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine.”
President Tinubu praised the resolve of the communities, noting, “It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue.”
He confirmed the deployment of an Army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield to the area, reinforcing earlier reports of a military response aimed at protecting vulnerable communities.
The President has directed close coordination between federal and state agencies to provide immediate relief to victims and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.
“I have further directed… that those responsible for this atrocity are pursued and brought to justice, just like other terrorists before them. They will not go scot-free,” he affirmed.
Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the Kwara State government of the federal government’s full support, pledging to protect communities and defeat forces of division and terror.
