President Tinubu Congratulates Minister Alake on Re-Election as African Minerals Chair

President Bola Tinubu has extended congratulations to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, following his re-election as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategic Group.

Minister Alake was re-elected during the group’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, held alongside the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has held the position since first being elected in 2024.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu characterized the re-election as a strong endorsement of Minister Alake’s leadership and his advocacy for the continent’s mining sector. The President commended the Minister’s “pan-African vision” and commitment to ensuring Africa derives greater benefits from its mineral resources.

“His commitment and pan-African vision to ensure our continent derives the greatest benefits from our mineral resources are commendable,” President Tinubu stated. “As Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals, he has led a reform agenda that is transforming the sector.”

The Africa Minerals Strategic Group is a consortium of mining ministers from across the continent, focused on maximizing the value of Africa’s mineral resources for its nations.

The President noted that under Minister Alake’s guidance, the group has strengthened a unified African position, promoting collaboration and positioning the continent strategically within the global critical minerals value chain. He also affirmed that the Federal Government would continue to support the Minister in his role.

President Tinubu further highlighted the alignment between the group’s objectives and his administration’s national agenda, particularly in attracting sustainable investment and creating jobs through Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
