President Tinubu Convenes Emergency Security Meeting Amid Escalating Threats

President Bola Tinubu met with top military commanders and heads of intelligence agencies at the Presidential Villa on Thursday to conduct a high-level review of the nation’s security landscape.

The closed-door session, which lasted for over two hours, involved the nation’s service chiefs, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and key security advisors. While the Presidency did not release an official statement regarding the specific outcomes, sources familiar with the agenda indicated that the meeting focused on assessing operations across several active theaters of conflict.

The consultation follows a week of intensified military action against insurgency and banditry. Earlier this week, troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, successfully disrupted a major gathering of roughly 300 armed militants in the North-West. Precision airstrikes were deployed against the group as they traveled between the Sunke-Kumbo and Gummi axes. During the operation, forces also neutralized a high-profile bandit commander identified as Alhaji Tukur.

In the North-East, the security situation remains fluid, with ongoing efforts to counter recent assaults on military bases. According to reports from the field, there has been a marked increase in attempts by extremist groups to compromise forward operating bases in Borno State.

Despite these challenges, government officials remain firm in their stance that security forces are gaining ground. During previous briefings, the military leadership emphasized that they have adopted a more aggressive posture, resulting in significant casualties among militant leaders and insurgent groups.
