President Tinubu Possesses Abundant Political Will to Tackle Insecurity, Says Oshiomhole
The Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has defended the federal government’s approach to national security, stating that the persistence of regional insecurity is not due to a lack of political resolve from President Bola Tinubu.
Oshiomhole made the assertions in Abuja during the public presentation of a book authored by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory Commandant, Olusola Odumosu. The lawmaker dismissed persistent public criticisms regarding executive inertia, pointing to recent supplementary budget allocations and administrative shifts as tangible indicators of presidential commitment.
The senator noted that the presidency has repeatedly mobilized financial resources, declared strategic emergencies, and replaced former service chiefs to optimize counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping campaigns. He emphasized that addressing national security should transcend political affiliations, calling for unified support across party lines to combat violent crimes.
However, Oshiomhole raised questions regarding operational-level execution, noting that a potential disconnect may exist between high-level leadership directives and frontline implementation. He urged security administrators to ensure that lower-ranking personnel possess the required equipment, morale, and allowances necessary to execute tactical commands effectively.
Additionally, the lawmaker proposed an institutional review of the NSCDC’s nomenclature, arguing that the inclusion of the term “civil” appears contradictory to an agency that utilizes firearms to safeguard critical infrastructure against armed criminal networks. He also advocated for the consistent inclusion of the NSCDC leadership within top-tier joint security council meetings to maximize inter-agency coordination.
The author of the book, Commandant Olusola Odumosu, echoed the calls for institutional synergy, warning that unhealthy rivalries among various law enforcement and paramilitary agencies continue to undermine the efficiency of national security responses. Odumosu stressed that a collaborative, unified front is essential to effectively dismantle sophisticated criminal operations across the country.
