Publication On Governorship Candidates Fake, Did Not Originate From Us — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as fake a publication circulating online which purports to be a special announcement by the Commission concerning governorship candidates in six states.

In a public notice posted on its X account, @inecnigeria, the Commission said the publication did not originate from it and urged members of the public to disregard it.

“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the publication is FAKE and did not originate from INEC,” the notice stated.

The affected states are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

INEC warned the public against sharing the fraudulent publication, advising citizens to obtain electoral information only through its verified communication channels.

“The public is advised to rely solely on official notices, press releases, and other information issued through the Commission’s verified communication channels,” it said.

The Commission also clarified that any information suggesting it had issued a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states was false.

INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify electoral information through its official website, [www.inecnigeria.org](http://www.inecnigeria.org), X and Instagram accounts, @inecnigeria, Facebook page, INEC Nigeria, and news portal, [www.inecnews.com](http://www.inecnews.com).Nigeria oil sector
