Rainstorm Leaves Residents Homeless in Plateau Community
A powerful rainstorm swept through the Nghassi community in the Mandar Ward of Bokkos Local Government Area on Tuesday, destroying over 20 homes and damaging vast stretches of farmland.
The storm, which hit the area at approximately 5 p.m., brought intense winds that tore off rooftops, uprooted trees, and demolished several structures. Residents reported that the sudden destruction has left many families displaced, with belongings, food supplies, and essential property lost to the elements.
While there were no reported casualties, community members are facing a dire humanitarian situation. Many of those affected are currently seeking refuge with neighbors and relatives, as their homes remain uninhabitable.
Local youth leadership has issued an urgent appeal to the Plateau State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (PLASEMA) to provide immediate relief, including temporary shelter and essential supplies to help the displaced families recover from the disaster.
When contacted regarding the incident, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Sunday Abdu, stated that his office had not yet received an official report on the disaster but promised to investigate the matter.
