Ransom Demands Issued for Abducted Kwara Traditional Ruler and Others
Kidnappers have reportedly demanded a total ransom of ₦450 million for the release of a Kwara State traditional ruler, his son, and other abducted residents.
The Oniwo of Aafin in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, and his son, Olaolu, were taken from their palace on the evening of December 31, 2025. According to a family source, the abductors have contacted the family, demanding ₦150 million for their freedom.
In a separate incident in the Adanla-Irese community, eight persons were abducted on December 26. The Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, confirmed that a ₦300 million ransom demand has also been made for that group.
The twin attacks have heightened security concerns in parts of Kwara State. During the invasion of the monarch’s palace, his wife was reportedly shot in the arm by the assailants and later hospitalized.
When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the command was not officially aware of the ransom demands. She reiterated the police’s stance against ransom payments, affirming that security agencies are working to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.
Residents of the affected communities are appealing to authorities for increased security measures and the safe return of all those abducted.
