Rivers Governor Sets October Deadline for Port Harcourt Ring Road

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged that the major Port Harcourt Ring Road project will be completed and delivered by October this year.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday after inspecting the over 50-kilometre road, which traverses approximately five local government areas. He stated the project is critical to easing traffic congestion in the state capital and surrounding communities.
Governor Fubara confirmed that the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, has recommitted to the October delivery date, contingent on consistent funding. He assured that his administration would continue to provide the necessary funds to maintain progress, despite existing challenges.
“They are still assuring us that by October they will deliver the project, and I strongly believe this promise I make to my people will be delivered. What they need is the funds, and from my own end is the push,” Fubara said.
He described the project as a strategic vision of his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, adding that its completion remains a priority for his administration.
“This project is very important considering the person who conceived it. He believed that if I achieved this project in record time, people would be happy with me. Notwithstanding whatever is happening, it is also my wish and my struggle to ensure that that wish comes through,” the governor added.
The Port Harcourt Ring Road was flagged off at the start of the Fubara administration with a 36-month timeline. Upon completion, it is designed to act as a major bypass around the capital, reducing inner-city traffic, improving access to key zones, and upgrading the state’s overall transportation network.
