Security Guard Nabbed for Allegedly Assaulting Eight-Year-Old Girl in Cross River

A 37-year-old security guard has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Calabar.

The suspect, identified as Ndifreke Godwin, was taken into custody after the incident was reported by the child’s mother to the police.

Police authorities said preliminary investigations suggest the suspect allegedly lured the minor to his residence under the guise of offering her money before carrying out the assault.

Following the report, officers moved swiftly to arrest the suspect and transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for an in-depth probe.

The victim has since been referred for medical evaluation and treatment, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice is served, stating that the suspect will face due legal process and any necessary prosecution based on the outcome of the investigation.

Police also called on parents, guardians, and residents to remain alert and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse and exploitation to relevant authorities.
