Security Operatives Intensify Search for Abducted Corps Members in Kogi

Security agencies have intensified search operations in Kogi State following the abduction of several National Youth Service Corps members and other travellers along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area.

Authorities said a joint rescue operation has already led to the recovery of 11 victims, including drivers of the vehicles involved in the attack, while efforts continue to locate those still in captivity and track down the abductors.

The attack occurred when armed men reportedly intercepted two passenger buses on the highway and forced some occupants into nearby bushes. Following an emergency alert, security personnel were deployed to the area and launched extensive search efforts across surrounding forests.

Officials said the rescued victims were safely recovered and allowed to continue their journeys after undergoing necessary procedures. Preliminary findings indicated that several of those rescued were corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja.

Meanwhile, transport operators have strengthened security measures on major inter-state routes to improve passenger safety and reduce risks associated with highway travel. Industry leaders said they are working closely with security agencies, although details of the strategies remain confidential for operational reasons.

As of the latest update, efforts remain underway to rescue the remaining victims and ensure those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
