Senator Orji Kalu Withdraws Support for Abia Governor Alex Otti

Former Abia Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu

Senator Orji Kalu has declared he will not support Governor Alex Otti of Abia State in the 2027 elections, citing a recent criticism from the governor’s office as the reason.

Kalu, a former state governor and current senator representing Abia North, claimed he played a key role in Otti’s victory in 2023. He stated his decision followed a statement from Governor Otti’s Chief Press Secretary, which he described as an insult.

“I consider the governor as my friend… but they fired the first salvo,” Kalu said. He added he will now focus on working for the All Progressives Congress to win the state in 2027.

The senator also questioned Otti’s performance, alleging that many projects credited to him are rehabilitations of roads built during Kalu’s own tenure as governor.

In response, the governor’s office stated that Otti remains focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Abia.
