SGF Inaugurates Presidential Transition Council

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Presidential Transition Council headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha.

Boss Mustapha performed the inauguration on Tuesday, describing it as a demonstration of the administration’s key commitment to strengthening key governance institutions that support the democratic process.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on February 7 signed Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 setting up the Presidential Transitions which provides the legal framework for a seamless transition of power from one administration to another.

Those inaugurated as members of the transition committee are Members of the Committee are Secretary to the Government of the Federation as Chairman, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Others are Permanent Secretaries in the Defence, Interior, Finance, Budget and National Planning; Foreign Affairs, Information and Culture; Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Cabinet Affairs Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), General Services Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Economic and Political Affairs Office Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) State House.

The National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, Inspector-General of Police, Director General, National Intelligence Agency; Director General, State Security Services; Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria are the other members of the Transition Committee.

Mustapha, who inaugurated the committee, said although the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria sets out the overarching framework for the assumption of office of the President, this is the first time in Nigeria’s history that the Federal Government will be establishing a detailed process for managing Presidential transitions of government at the federal level.

He said in line with Executive Order No. 14 of 2023, the Council will facilitate and manage the 2023 Presidential Transition Programme to facilitate the handing over process by the current President to the President-elect.
