Shettima Demands Results-Driven Food Security Measures
Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged stakeholders to ensure that government investments in food security translate into real improvements in food production, availability, and affordability across the country.
At a food systems coordination meeting in Abuja, Shettima stressed the need for greater accountability in ongoing interventions, insisting that resources allocated to the sector must produce measurable outcomes for farmers and consumers.
Discussions centred on boosting domestic food production ahead of the harvest season, improving the movement of food from farms to markets, and tackling distribution challenges that contribute to rising food prices.
Stakeholders also examined ways to strengthen strategic food reserves, improve logistics, and align agricultural policies with market realities to address supply gaps without undermining local farmers.
The meeting reviewed several agricultural initiatives designed to enhance productivity, improve food system planning, and strengthen the government’s capacity to respond to emerging food security challenges.
