Sokoto APC Criticizes Former Governor Tambuwal, Welcomes PDP Defectors

The All Progressives Congress in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State has taken aim at former Governor Aminu Tambuwal, accusing him of neglecting his home constituency during his tenure. The party instead praised the current administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu for focusing on grassroots development.
At an APC stakeholders’ meeting held in Tambuwal, the local party chairman, Isa Achida, stated that the present government has demonstrated the relevance of local governance through visible projects, appointments, and empowerment programs. He dismissed Tambuwal’s involvement in a new political coalition as “old wine in a new bottle,” comprised of familiar politicians who had previously “failed our state.”
Achida also formally welcomed defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, including three former councilors, attributing their move to the developmental strides of Governor Aliyu’s administration. He assured them of equal rights within the APC and urged them to mobilize support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Several officials highlighted specific achievements in the area. The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Ala, announced that three mega schools have been approved for Tambuwal Local Government to expand educational access. The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Dikko, disclosed that 83 indigenes have been appointed to various political offices and that over 8,300 residents have received financial support of at least ₦100,000 each from the state.
Dikko praised the state’s ongoing transformation and urged the government to properly document its achievements to counter misinformation. He also dismissed speculation about his own political ambitions, stating he would only act on the directive of the party leadership.
The former governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, could not be reached for comment. The PDP spokesperson in the state, Hassan Sanyinnawal, said the party would respond at the appropriate time.
The meeting concluded with APC leaders expressing confidence in securing victory in the 2027 elections, citing progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, water, and power supply across Sokoto State.
