Sokoto Approves ₦1.76bn for 1,000 Motorcycles to Combat Rural Banditry

The Sokoto State Government has approved ₦1.759 billion for the procurement of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to aid security forces in navigating difficult terrains and tackling banditry across rural communities.

The decision was finalized during the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, presided over by Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir. According to a statement by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa, the motorcycle procurement is designed to complement the 62 armored operational vehicles recently acquired by the state government for ₦27 billion, aiming to improve tactical mobility and response times for security personnel deployed in remote areas.

Beyond security measures, the Executive Council approved major budgetary allocations for educational, healthcare, and public infrastructure projects across the state. These include ₦723.17 million for the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo; ₦498.99 million for the rehabilitation of A.A. Raji Special School; and ₦489.32 million for phase one renovations at the College of Nursing Sciences.

Additional funds were allocated for hostel renovations at the College of Basic and Remedial Studies, facility upgrades at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science in Wurno, water supply maintenance, and vocational equipment for women’s development centers across all 23 local government areas.
