Sokoto Revenue Service Withdraws Monthly E-Filing Mandate

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service has withdrawn its earlier circular mandating compulsory monthly electronic tax filing.
In a public notice issued Thursday, the agency clarified that only the annual tax return must be filed electronically, in line with the Nigerian Tax Administration Act, 2025. This reverses a January 5 directive that had announced compulsory monthly e-filing.
The agency stated the reversal was necessary because “the implementation framework for monthly e-filing is still in progress and has not yet been fully operationalised.”
Taxpayers were advised to disregard the earlier instruction on monthly filing until further official notice, while confirming that annual e-filing remains mandatory.
The SOIRS described e-filing as a key tool for modern, transparent tax administration and pledged continued support to ensure smooth compliance.
