South Korea Outscore D’Tigress 99-81 in Berlin World Cup Opener

Nigeria’s D’Tigress began their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a 99-81 defeat to South Korea in their opening Group B game in Berlin on Friday.

Nigeria stayed competitive through the first three quarters, trailing 26-22 after the first, 48-45 at halftime and 68-62 entering the final quarter.

South Korea pulled away in the fourth quarter, capitalising on Nigeria’s 23 turnovers and strong shooting from three-point range. Park Jihyun led all scorers with 27 points, while Leeseul Kang added 20.

D’Tigress captain Amy Okonkwo led Nigeria with 20 points, while Murjanatu Musa grabbed 13 rebounds.

Nigeria will face Hungary on Saturday as they look to bounce back and keep their hopes of advancing from Group B alive.
