Sunday Igboho Applauds Federal Government and Security Agencies Over Oyo School Rescues
Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has commended President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies following the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire, Oyo State.
In a statement released through his media office on Saturday, Adeyemo emphasized that the government’s refusal to concede to the kidnappers’ demands which reportedly included the release of detained terrorists prevented criminal groups from becoming bolder and securing further funding for violent operations. His comments follow the safe recovery of the victims on Friday after 56 days in captivity.
According to official updates, the rescue was achieved through a coordinated intelligence-driven operation that resulted in the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while others were neutralized. The presidency confirmed that no negotiations or exchanges involving detained terrorists took place to secure the victims’ release.
Adeyemo praised the tactical synergy displayed by the military, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other paramilitary agencies under the direction of the Ministry of Defence and the National Security Adviser. He noted that the successful mission has restored public confidence in the Federal Government’s ability to combat criminal elements, particularly within the Oke-Ogun region and across rural communities in the Southwest.
While celebrating the safe return of the survivors, Adeyemo also extended his condolences to the family of Michael Oyedokun, a teacher who lost his life during the initial abduction, as well as to other families impacted by the incident.
