Sunday Igboho Denies Ethnic Targeting in Calls for South-West Security

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has rejected allegations that his advocacy for enhanced security in the South-West is directed at any specific ethnic group. In a statement released Monday, Igboho clarified that his campaign is focused solely on rooting out criminal elements responsible for kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks across the region.

The response comes following a recent call by the Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria (CFPN), which urged President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to caution the activist. The group claimed that Igboho’s recent remarks regarding the abduction of a woman and her children in Oyo State were inflammatory and targeted the Fulani community.

Dismissing the CFPN’s statement as a “distortion of facts,” Igboho maintained that he has never declared war on any ethnic nationality. Instead, he argued that crime should be treated as a criminal matter regardless of the perpetrator’s ethnic, religious, or political background.

“Our position has always been very clear: criminals should be identified, arrested, and prosecuted by law enforcement agencies because crime has no color or race,” the statement read.

Igboho further emphasized that his actions are a reaction to the persistent threats to life and economic livelihood in Yoruba communities. He described the demand for him to be cautioned as a “misplaced priority,” asserting that critics should instead focus on supporting stronger security measures to dismantle criminal networks.

During his address, the activist commended the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Service, and other security heads for their ongoing efforts to combat crime in the South-West. He pledged his willingness to collaborate with authorities to strengthen community safety, noting that the fight against insecurity is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of all citizens.

Concluding the statement, Igboho urged those concerned with the region’s stability to prioritize justice for victims of violent crime, reiterating that his objective remains the protection of innocent lives and the restoration of peace in the region.
